aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

I'm so frustrated! ELF got me again! And sucking my sister in along! OMG, can I not stop buying makeup from them?????? I completely lack any semblance of willpower, geez! Am soooo embarrassed!

ELF is currently celebrating their eighth anniversary this month and every week beginning last week, there has been some kind of special going on. Honestly, ELF consistently holds promotions so really this isn't like a really special occasion :p

These past 2 days they were having a 50 off mineral line special for cart totals of over 30 bucks on mineral items (BD50MIN) so I finally gave in with less than 20 minutes left in the offer. My total, inclusive of my sister's stuff, came up to $44.40 with 3-day select shipping at $11.90. Product-wise, the total spent is $32.50.

I decided to get more of the Moisturizing Lip Tint SPF8 in the shades Guava and Blush. My sister also got 2 of these, a Blush and Pink. With the discount, the total was $6 for 4 lip tints. My sis and I spent $3 per person.

I also decided to get the 2-Piece Foundation SPF 15 Set in Light which is a $5 value kit. But it was on sale for $3.75 so with 50% it would go for $1.88. Hence, I got 2 of these. I discovered that the set in Light came with the same shade as the Warm Starter Kit. The Warm set of the 2-Piece Foundation SPF 15 came in Beige which is why I decided not to go for it since Beige comes off as pink-toned. Warm is yellow-toned and as I mentioned, I love using this shade. I also stocked up on the mineral concealer in Warm. I love this concealer - it blends seamlessly with my skin tone and does a great job doing what it's supposed to do. I got 2 of these as well for $5. Another product I stocked up on was the 2-Piece Blemish Set. Also retailing at $5 but on sale for $3.75, I got two of these as well since with the 50 off deal I'm getting 2 for $3.75!

Talking about face products, something I had never gotten before but truly intrigued me is the new Revitalizing Mineral Mist. It's kitschy, I know but anything 'mineral' now gets my attention. What it is - basically ELF's mineral version of the ELF Studio Makeup Mist & Set. Per bottle this costs a hefty 8 bucks. Again, with the 50 off, I went for 2.

And that concludes my purchases. My sis got 2 mineral blushes for $5. She also got a Hypershine Lip Gloss from the Essential line for $1.

thanks MissGlamorazzi!

I wish the sarcasm was more obvious. Because of MissGlamorazzi from Youtube, I ended up making a foray into Lioele - a Korean makeup brand that she has been raving about ever since buying some of their products on her Bangkok trip at the end of 2011.

Yes, yes, I am such a gullible sheep. She says it's great, I immediately feel I have to have it. Mainly when she raves about the drugstore stuff though - I haven't yet been tempted to get myself the Chanel Aqua Lumiere that she has waxed lyrical about since summer 2011.

It also so happened that a Lioele store opened here a couple of months ago and I was curious about the pricing. Curiosity got me the Lioele Skin Fix Powder Pact for oily skin :)

This is MissGlamorazzi's HG compact powder so I was very ecstatic that this was in stock. It is supposed to be a fantastic sebum control powder which can be used at the end of your daily makeup routine to set the makeup as well as a blotting powder throughout the day. In terms of the shade selection, it's only available in 2 hues, Blooming Ivory (obviously too fair for moi) and Natural Beige. I, of course, went for the latter. The shade still appears a tad light for my skin tone in the pan but is basically translucent when applied to the face. For the past 2 days I have used it, I have been happy with the oil control. However, it does require blotting/reapplying after about five hours. The compact is really cute, kitschy, girly - a hot metallic pink packaging. It comes with an antibacterial puff, which I don't use - I apply this with a powder brush, and has a sturdy hard plastic separator.

As cute as the outside packaging is, I think the overall quality of the plastic appears somewhat flimsy. I'm guessing if I accidentally dropped this on the floor then it'll most likely break the case. I got this for USD16.80 which is cheaper than if I had bought it back in Homeland. By about 10 bucks, in fact.

I also wanted to get the other product MissGlamorazzi raved about, Lioele's Beyond The Solution BB Cream. It's an oil-free, spf-free, non-whitening BB cream. Since BB creams are purportedly all-in-one face solutions, why would I want a product that doesn't do the normal functions?

Because I am trying to find a face product I can use under flash lighting. So far, all the makeup I wear for the face barring my mineral makeup gives me a white cast under flash photography. This is rather annoying when taking pictures in low light environment. I read that the white cast effect is due to the titanium dioxide (oxide?) and/or SPF content in face products. The solution many people suggested to overcome this is by using products with no/little SPF such as the Lioele Beyond The Solution BB Cream and the Revlon ColorStay liquid foundation range which only contains SPF8. Since I don't want to go too heavy with this, I decided to scope out the BB cream but what was available was a deluxe sample retailing for a lil over 8 bucks. The full product was $14.++. I could not justify buying the sample when I can get a full size product with an additional 7 dollars.

Anyways, I think I can go look for the BB cream at a different location and perhaps buy it there. I am not going to be buying it in Homeland when I am there this Sunday because it is also retailing for 10 bucks more than what I would be paying for here.

Hmmm, come to think of it, I'm picking up the last round of my ELF stash which contains all of my tinted moisturizers so I'll have that in hand to play with. Though they do contain SPF. There I am, making excuses to go and get the Lioele BB cream anyways :D Really, I have no clue why I am buying so much face stuff. My skin isn't perfect but it's not like it's awful, lol. I guess I'm just in that phase where I am loving my face as a canvas for artistic expression, hehehe

resisting ELF.....

....led me to a Bare Escentuals binge instead!

Good news: US Sephora is a go with the iPhone app.

I got into mineral makeup with the high end Jane Iredale. It was my first mineral makeup experience and it was an expensive trial and error period for me. Right after finding my best shade and the best JI product for me, I discovered ELF. Going drugstore with ELF on my makeup was a major gamble considering my skin condition was still very precarious. So far, I think it's been mostly hits rather than misses with ELF. In terms of the mineral makeup, I have loved it. The Blemish Kit I got is nearing empty and I love the mineral foundation and concealer both in the shade warm. I am leaving Jane Iredale behind for good.

However, before making a full commitment to ELF, I figure it is time I dipped my toes in with the Bare Escentuals bareMinerals crowd. If there is ever a major minerals makeup line with a vocal and almost fanatical following, it's the bareMinerals devotees. Honestly, I can't really think why I never started with this range first. I remember thinking it's pricey but that argument certainly doesn't bode well for me since JI is pricier than both BE and ELF.

Since I'm basically trying desperately to stop myself from buying ELF, ELF, ELF all the time, I ended up looking around and found out about the BE bM "Try. Believe. Love." kit. It is basically an introductory kit for people who are skeptical about bM I guess. Like a tasting palette for mineral makeup.

The kit comes with 6 products. I got mine in the shade Medium Beige. The Original SPF 15 Foundation, Matte SPF 15 Foundation (very intrigued by this for my 'shiny' skin) and Mineral Veil Finishing Powder in Original are in 0.03oz containers while the SPF 20 Concealer in Summer Bisque comes in a smaller jar I estimate about 0.01oz. It also contains a Mini Full Flawless Face Brush and a Mini Concealer Brush/Light Stroke Brush. And all this is priced at USD20. It's an inexpensive way to try multiple BE products without hurting the wallet. At least I can honestly say I've tried the popular mineral makeup brand and loved the drugstore line better - if that is the case, of course :)

I was also intrigued by the bM Blemish Therapy Kit which goes for USD18. Compared to the ELF Blemish Kit which goes for 8 bucks. I like the ELF kit though I'm not entirely sure it is helping my skin along or not. But I have been religiously mixing it with the ELF Mineral Foundation SPF15 in warm and it does not appear to be doing my complexion any harm. Yet, I just want to be an informed consumer and try out the original blemish kit from bM. There is a limited edition kit called the "Heal & Conceal Kit".

I got this in Medium. It consists of 2 powders in 0.03 oz containers. First is a full size container of the blemish therapy and you also get the concealer in Summer Bisque. It also includes the Heal & Conceal brush, Mini Maximum Coverage Concealer brush AND all this is packaged in the Heal & Conceal bag! For the affordable price of USD25.

Since my order is already $45 and I just need 5 bucks more to qualify for 3-day shipping, I decided to round up my total with the Tarte Clean Slate Deluxe Primer Trio.

Basically this set contains deluxe sample sizes of Tarte's most popular primers. It comes with an 0.09oz Clean Slate™ 360° Creaseless 12-Hr Smoothing Eye Primer, 0.25oz Clean Slate™ Poreless 12-Hr Perfecting Primer and 0.25 oz Clean Slate™ Flawless 12-Hr Brightening Primer. For 9 bucks, I think this is a deal.

To be honest, I actually tried to get this stuff last week via Ulta but the whole CC billing add not matching thing stopped me. Also, when i tried getting just the BE stuff direct from bareescentuals.com the same thing happened. Sephora was just my last stop to see if I would have similar issues. So far, it's looking good that it'll pass since I've received my order confirmation and all.

Personally, I know what compelled me to get this even though I have tons of stuff still. Aside from the price, is cos my girlfriends and I were talking about makeup recommendations and since I know so many brands they were looking at me for advice. I gave it to them but realized that I haven't tried a number of the stuff I recommended.

Since I'm now such an advocate of mineral makeup and was recommending BE as the best even though I hadn't used it, I felt guilty and thought I should at least try it out before telling people to buy it. I also mentioned the Jane Iredale products I used. Why did I not recommend ELF? I guess, despite my loving the brand, I know my friends wouldn't trust a drugstore brand at the prices ELF sells their stuff. I'll say it - they are brand snobs :D.

Also, I recommended a Tarte primer based on other people's reviews and I don't even own a single Tarte product! At least I do have a sample of a bareMinerals lip gloss which I do like so I have experience with the brand (I know I'm stretching here :D).

All in all $54. That brings the total spent today to $75.90. I'm out!.

P.S:
I forgot to mention I used coupon code MOBILE and got myself a free Sephora iPad felt sleeve. I figure since I couldn't find any discount codes, aside from free samples, free stuff would also do :D

$30 OpenSky credit!

How could I not end up getting something???? So...I DID!!!!

I initially got a $20 credit for completing a survey and then today I received a $10 credit for God only knows what - I don't keep up with why OpenSky likes to give free credit to me. So now I've got $30 of free money to burn in a limited time period. Catch is I needed to spend a minimum of $40 to be able to use the credit. Basically I needed my total to be exactly 40 then pay for whatever shipping. I estimated I'd end up paying 20 bucks for whatever I could find.

I scoured the site to see if there was anything I wanted in particular. I encountered the Sibu pills I've been consuming but figured since I can get em off of drugstore.com for cheaper, I'm not going to use my 30 bucks free money on this. Then I saw the Too Faced Beauty Balm SPF20!

OMG, I had been wishy-washying over this (and various other face makeup products) for the past week!. I had a 20% off coupon from Beauty.com and had wanted to get this. I had a sample of this in Nude Glow from my Erin Fetherston train case and I liked how it felt on my skin even though the shade was too dark and oxidized too fast. It retails for $32 so I would only be paying $2! Sooooo much better than getting 20% off! I got this in the shade Creme Glow. It's a shade lighter than Nude Glow and I'm hoping it won't go too orangey like it did in Nude Glow. I liked using it under my mineral powder and the oxidization was offset by the powder so even if this full tube I buy does the same thing, I'm hiding it under the mineral foundation anyway. Looking at the shade now, it looks pink-toned but I guess I can still work with it.

Now, I was looking for something that would bring my total to 40 bucks. I went to the Clearance section. Man, OpenSky's clearance section isn't truly a clearance section. Prices are still high. Nonetheless, I found an interesting kitchen appliance that went for 10 bucks making my total $42. What was it?

It's the Rosle Egg Topper! What's an egg topper you ask? A contraption that neatly cuts off the tops of hard AND soft boiled eggs! What a tool! I usually end up with a mess so I loved the idea of this! Hope it works!

So with shipping I paid $21.90. I went over my budget but like I mentioned, there really aren't truly cheap stuff on OpenSky. Okay, so I can't believe I got another makeup product. I'm blaming my girlfriends for this. We have been emailing each other about new makeup products and since I'm their premier source of makeup brands (a lil sad for them all around :p) I've been looking into all these products I recommended myself and kept wanting to try the full size of the BB in a more compatible shade. Since the Too Faced BB in Nude Glow went on too dark and orangey, I figured I'd go a shade down. This is honestly, the only BB balm that I actually liked despite the color and oxidization issues. All the other ones that I've tried were a bust. Clinique and Garnier gave me uneven skin and the Skin79, well, I've detailed how it makes me grey :). Since I'm essentially paying 2 dollars for the Too Faced balm via OpenSky, I figured I can invest in this and not feel too bad if it doesn't work out.

1000 kissable

No, I'm not drunk. Not in love either. Just obsessed with finding the perfect lip stain. My first foray into the world of lip stains was when I got this kit from Benefit and owned my first bottle of Benetint. Oh, how I loved Benetint - I bought all the Benetint iterations but nothing beats the original.

Anyway, as much as i love Benetint, it only comes in the one red rose shade and at $29 per bottle, it is an expensive luxury. Thus began my search for the best drugstore lip stain. Recently, I did try to get my first non high end lip stain in pen form from ELF but the shade I selected was out of stock (OOS). I was then plagued with an all-consuming need to find an alternative. A couple of weeks ago, Revlon released their new formulation Just Bitten lip stains and giving this line the name 'Just Bitten Kissable'. The original 'Just Bitten' collection was widely panned so i never bothered to venture into getting one of my own but this 'Just Bitten Kissable' line has been receiving rave reviews across the board.

The annoying thing about following the progress of makeup in the US is that there are plenty of times that the makeup never arrives beyond the shores of the US of A. So annoying, tres frustrating. The 'Just Bitten' lip stains never did arrive in Asia. Knowing that I would most likely end up having to get it online, I decided to google for alternatives and found that the UK drugstore brand Rimmel had come up with their version of Revlon's 'Just Bitten' lip stains called 1000 Kisses Lip Tint. And it was sold back in Homeland! During my trip back recently, I redeemed some points I had on one of my many members card and got the Rimmel lip tint in shade 700 (Nothing But Nude).

It's this gorgeous peachy color that gives lips a very subtle and natural pretty flush. I do love the shade. However, I feel that the felt tip applicator will most likely dry out soon. That's my only negative.

Anyways, long story short, I was getting my sis something off of drugstore.com and was trying to use a $5 off $50 coupon. My sister's Murad kit was $45 so I needed something roughly 5 bucks or more and on the site there was a Revlon promo 'Buy 1, Get 1 50%' thus I decided to go for the 'Just Bitten Kissable' lip stains. This version is more similar to Clinique's chubby sticks which is a major plus. If it was another felt tip applicator I would seriously consider not getting them. I got them in the shade sweetheart and charm. I'm a tad obsessed with orangey/corally hues at the moment.

The RRP of the lip stains are $8.99 but with the promo I got 2 for $6.74 each. That's alright all things considered. I'm very happy that I got these. Can't wait to get my hands on 'em!

UPDATE:
My DHL shipment arrived and the lip stain I thought wasn't getting sent with my ELF order was actually included! So I have a version from another brand to make comparisons! Woohoo!!!

my may/june 2012 haul

Ooh, am excited - my 6 packages are in Homeland! They should be delivered today and I'm hoping DHL will though I've been refreshing the tracking page countless times and still no status update saying it's on the truck for delivery just yet :D

June 2012's edition of "i covet....."

I haven't done an "i covet....." post in a while. Mainly cos barely any time passes before "i covet" becomes "i bought". But I've been pretty good about simply coveting and not purchasing in the past couple of weeks so I figured I can do a post :)

No guarantees that the items mentioned will remain an "i covet" for long though. One BFF is headed to Orlando and I can save some Homeland shipping fees if I order and get it overnighted to her hotel....let's just get on with the list.

Fittingly enough, first up, we have the Rebecca Minkoff 'Covet' satchel.

I first saw this last year browsing the RM website during one of her annual online sample sales. I was looking at the MAB's but fell in love with an olive ostrich-embossed leather version of this satchel instead. I like the vintage quality the bag exudes (do I sound crazy when I type things like this out? bags exuding feels, hehehe). But even at a 20% discount, I wasn't particularly fond of parting with roughly 300 bucks for something 'Made in China'. You know me and my China products complex. Then on HauteLook a couple of months later they had an RM event and a smooth leather cobalt version of the satchel was on sale for 99 bucks if I'm not mistaken. It was in summer 2011, can't really remember but I know it was going for a dirt cheap price like that. I had it in my cart but for some reason could not justify the purchase then. I regret that to this day. Sigh. Now, this croc-embossed version with the gold hardware is going for $193 on Amazon. I've been wanting a black handbag with gold hardware. All my nice black bags are silver hardware. What I would prefer is a vintage Chanel Jumbo with gold hardware but well, prices are not on my side so this really is the next best thing. I'm playing a game of chicken right now. The price of the satchel has been steadily going down since I first put the bag in my cart. I'm waiting it out till July 4th to see if it'll go down any further.

Whilst I was browsing Amazon for the RM laptop bag, I came across this other RM bag that I instantly fell in lust with.

It's the Rebecca Minkoff 'Jane' shoulder bag. My first impression - RM's take on the infamous Hermes Birkin. Come to think of it, I feel like the 'Covet' has some Hermes Kelly aesthetic. My favorite part of the bag is the coin tassel thingy attached to the top handle. For some reason that is tres attractive to me. For an even weirder reason, I get native american vibes from that tassel. As can be seen, it's also croc-embossed in the same shiny leather as the 'Covet' satchel above. The difference is this is silver hardware. I actually like the brownish-red version of this that comes in gold hardware but that is not going for $250. I don't really think I can rationally justify getting both bags in the same material despite them being 2 different models and differing hardware. I mean, if I'm totally honest, they are both structured satchels with barely any size difference. The 'Covet' is edges the 'Jane' slightly on this point. But when have I shopped rationally?

Last but not least, I am totally obsessed with these Bass Ophelia flatforms in whiskey. I admit, I really want to get on this trend ever since it came to life early last year (or was it 2010?) but never got around to it. Then I was on ideeli one night a couple of weeks ago and saw this version of the Bass sandals going for $49.99.

This is everything I feel a flatform should be. Leather, wide cross-straps at the front (all the better to hide my bunions) and in the best aged brown shade ever! I can totally see myself traipsing around in my enormous collection of maxi dresses with these sandals on. But I did not get these - I think I just cleared my credit card bill and also just got the RM laptop bag so I wishy washed over this for some time before deciding reluctantly not to get them. I have been filled with mucho regret since. I can't find it anywhere for less than the Amazon price of $71.93. But you know how once you've seen it at a lower price point you can't help not wanting to put in an extra 30 bucks no matter how much you want it. Hence, I've been looking on all the sample sale sites as well as Amazon to see if anybody's going to have it on for less than 50 bucks. It's really another wait-and-see kinda thing.

And thus ends June 2012's covet list.

binge hasn't ended

I guess I could make a series out of this - 'The Great Shopping Binge of 2012'. No, not more e.l.f. stuff but certainly not for a lack of trying. Let me just put it out there - Target.com SUCKS!

Which is what led to this particular shopping expedition, really. I was trying to get some Self Expression By Maidenform dress slip shape wear off of Target's site along with an e.l.f. Beauty To Go gift set and a 3-pack e.l.f. Shine Eraser. I wanted the slip in nude and black which was going for $20.99 each and I wanted free shipping so I chose to get the two e.l.f. products that are unavailable elsewhere. My total came up to $57.xx but I had a $5 off $50 coupon so it ended up being $53.xx. Everything looked hunky dory - I got my order confirmation email and not an hour later, I got my order cancelation email :)

So now I've got rejection on my mind and it irks me when I want something I'm denied. I go by the mentality - I'm paying you, who are you to tell me what I can or cannot buy? Yes, I'm fudging it on the billing address but if you did allow international credit cards for payment then we international shoppers wouldn't have to keep working around your damn system, would we?

What do I do? Go to Amazon.com to see if the shape wear I wanted was on there. Further to the irritating nature of Target is that some of the stuff on their site from outside brands can't even be found on that own brand's website! I checked Maidenform.com and there's no trace of the Self Expression by Maidenform line anywhere on that site - tres' annoying! And this is me basically explaining I couldn't find it on Amazon either. No fret, I found Bali Shapewear instead. And I decided to get this:

It's the Bali Powershape Lux Chemise. It was on sale for $20.14 in Black Medium. I also put the Bali Comfortshape Seamless Full Sculpt Slip in Nude Medium into my cart which was going for $17.xx. So now I have my two Self Expression by Maidenform replacements. And as I was checking my cart, I noticed something I had put in previously was going for a 20-plus dollar discount - the Rebecca Minkoff MAC 13" Laptop Bag. This normally retails for $250 but was now going for $224.xx. I have been eyeing this bag for eons and was definitely feeling the excitement of the markdown. However, I thought over all my purchases and thinking that I just finished clearing my Mastercard bill. Currently, I just have the drugstore.com order ($35.49) on it, did I really want to put on more onto the card? I decided to sleep on it.

The next morning I decided to just checkout the Bali shape wear stuff. Amazon.com always informs you if the price of a product has increased or decreased since you put it into your cart and my irritation came back full circle when I noticed the Bali Comfortshape Seamless Full Sculpt Slip had increased by 3 bucks overnight. I was feeling indignant and based on whatever principle I was thinking about at that time, I immediately removed it from my cart. Then I noticed the Rebecca Minkoff laptop bag's price was now reflecting $207.03. So now it's $42.97 down from the RRP?!?!? Well, I think you can guess what happened next :)

Yup, I got it. This one is so hard to find now. I google shopped this and most places don't have this particular color anymore. The retailers are carrying the latest incarnation which is the two-tone python (not a fan) or the bronze snakeskin embossed version that was released along with this all-black version. Although I do fancy the bronze, I figure it was just too flashy for me. I think that this case (which if I'm honest is basically a leather laptop sleeve with 2 D rings sewn on to the top on each side for the shoulder strap) could also double as a purse/large clutch really. It has a zippered compartment in the front under the decorative clip lock flap and a magnetized compartment on the back which also holds a small removable pouch (I hope! I watched a Zappos.com video on the 15" version and it had the pouch). I do foresee some issues with the strap length since it appears that it's not adjustable but I can always figure something out.

Finally got myself a Rebecca Minkoff piece. So yeah, her stuff is 'Made In China' which isn't my most favorite thing in the world but considering my Foley + Corinna Mid City tote has held up pretty well (not to mention my Coach bags as well), I'll give RM the benefit of doubt. I am a tad worried about this purchase because it's actually really tough to find people who have actually bought this and gave an account of the bag (i.e: construction, how well it held up, actual usage, etc.). I have found no one who's done a post/vlog on this. I am basically buying this relatively 'blind'. I really do hope it works out for me. If, once I get this, I find I absolutely like it, I'm thinking of getting either the RM Covet satchel, a bag I've lusted over since mid-2011, or the RM Jane satchel, which is a play on the Hermes' Birkin from what I've seen. Both bags I love in the embossed croc glossy black style - totes gorgeous (some wordplay there, lol)!

Just checked the shipping status and the RM laptop bag has shipped so WOOHOO! but the Bali chemise is still 'Shipping Soon'. I think that since the bag is coming from the East Coast of the States, it makes its way to wherever the Bali products are shipped from and then the packages will go together. I've been buying enough stuff from online retailers in the US that I've started observing their shipment patterns, hehehe.

I'm going to wait until these 2 Amazon shipments arrive to Portland before I ship my entire haul back. I foresee shipping costing me about 100 bucks, lol. I already have the first F21 order (which needs to be repacked for an additional 7 bucks but will save me 20 dollars) and my e.l.f. order at Portland. The second F21 package is in Portland and waiting for USPS to deliver. My drugstore.com e.l.f. order is also on it's way via UPS from Pennsylvania and now I have my 2 Amazon stuff coming in by the end of next week. I think the stuff will arrive in Homeland only the week after - I'm headed home next Friday for a surprise visit to celebrate my sister's 40th birthday and subsequently my parent's 40th anniversary of becoming parents :) So, my sis sprung for my tix Home and I'm leaving on an evening flight. I will definitely not be able to get any of these stuff while I'm home cos I'm back in Workland on Tuesday the following week. I will have my Strawberrynet stuff in hand though - that arrived on Monday, I think :)

Ok, wish me luck on the whole restraint thing. I can't think of anything else I'd like to buy but knowing me, myself and I, it's possible there just might be something that I get in the interim. My shopping prowess should not be underestimated - even when I'm flat broke!
